TUESDAYS- SIX WEEK SESSION
Space Capsule City (GRADES 3-5)
Ms. Leslie Wallant
Build a futuristic city in space, on a distant planet or asteroid or deep under a new planet’s sea. Map and plan, then construct in its shielded capsule. Consider atmosphere, power, water and food resources, landscaping, urban planning of streets, commerce, transportation and architecture. Design your capsule. Tell your story. The sky is the limit! STEAM: Astronomy, Space Capsule Design, Terra Forming, Cartography, Geology, Urban Planning, Energy, Environment, Food Production….
Folk Dancing with Ms. Hauge (GRADES 1-3)
If you love music and moving your body, then this is the class for you! Folk dancing is all about great music, great friends, and great fun. Students will develop their musicianship and practice their skills of cooperation and partnership while they learn how to carry on an American tradition that has lasted for generations.
Cooking Adventures (GRADES 1-4)
Ms. Lilly Bussin
Come on a trip around the world in this fun-filled culinary adventure class. We may travel to India to learn about the history of curry, visit areas of South America to explore the vast array of flavors found there, and travel back in time to the continental USA to explore the roots of traditional BBQ styles. All while developing our palates with a greater understanding of food origins, history, world view and preparation.
This course is designed to help young chefs explore cuisines while safely and hygienically building basic skills in the kitchen such as slicing, dicing, chopping, sautéing, and more
WEDNESDAYS- SIX WEEK SESSION
Art Around the World (GRADES 1-3)
Ms. Joy Lara
A fun “travel” experience via traditional arts and crafts from other countries. This session opens vistas into different lands and cultures, and ignites in our students a spirit of adventure and appreciation for our diverse world.
This session features a peek into Asian culture via the Philippines, Japan and China.
Fashion First Workshop (GRADES 3-5)
Ms. Renee Nesbitt-Baird
Fashion First Workshop is a fashion design sewing program. We teach the fundamental skills of learning how to sew and sketch, while also building self-esteem. Our students sew their own project, show it off at their last class during the fashion show, then they take their project home. This class is a great creative outlet for all students.
Chemical Engineering (GRADES 1-3)
Morris County Engineering for Kids, Inc.
During this chemical engineering class, students will use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine various mixtures and solutions with different chemical properties. They develop solutions to clean up an oil spill, synthesize their own rocket fuel, and investigate the secrets behind color pigmentation.
