CIVIL ENGINEERING (GRADES 3-5)
MR. JOHN BORJA (FIFTH GRADE TEACHER)
Building Bridges - Become a Civil Engineer
Have you ever wondered how bridges are built? Have you ever dreamed of designing and building one yourself? Bridges are incredibly important for connecting people to resources, places and other people. In learning about bridge types (arch, beam, truss and suspension) students will explore the effect of various forces that make resilient bridges. Students will research and investigate all of the calculations that go into designing bridges; they will learn about loads and cross-sectional areas by designing and testing the strength of models. Students will learn about the properties of different bridge materials as well as explore the many cost factors that need to be considered when building a bridge. Bridges are all unique and you will be challenged to investigate, design and build your own bridge!
WORLD OF MUSIC (GRADES 1-3)
MRS. KAREN COLABAUGH (WASHINGTON'S MUSIC TEACHER)

American folk songs form the heart of this class, and children will deepen their knowledge and understanding of the music that makes up the musical tapestry of this country. Students will also broaden their experience of playing and reading music through the use of the many instruments that Washington's music room has to offer.
SUNPRINT GALORE (GRADES 1-3)
MS. DEBRA TREBITZ- (Debra Trebitz Photography)

This class is a process of discovery and kids keep the projects for a long time.
